I have a nissan model ns55b 2 cylinder engine serial no. 353-113906 .I think it is 1985 or newer not sure.I bought a tachometer off a newer 3 cylinder nissan.hooked it up and the most rpm it will show at w.o.t.is about 2800 r.p.m. will this tachometer  work on a 2 cylinder engine like mine or 3 cylinder engines only? I hooked the wires up yellow to yellow and white to white and black to black is there another way i should hook it up.i used the yellow and white wires in the control box to hook the tachometer too. thanks

There is a dial setting on the back of the tach. Change the setting. That's if it is a Nissan/Tohatsu tach. If it is another brand it will probably not work.

It is a nissan tach. there is a rubber plug on the back of the tach pulled it off and it had a dial switch and you could set it on 4p or 6p or 12p its on 6p right now any ideal what i should set it on for a 2cylinder engine??

I remember it as the 12 pole setting. But, try the four if that doesn't clear it up.
