I have a 5hp nissan 2 stroke long shaft that was sitting about two years. It would barely start so I purchased a carb rebuild kit and replaced everything even though all looked good. Now it idles pretty nice but when I put it in gear and start to rev it up it shuts down...even when its warmed up and choke off. Once in a while it will get close to 1/2 throttle but still cant make it. In neutral I can rev it up all the way no problem. I did take it out of the water and it seems to rev up full throttle out of the water and in gear...I did that only for a second since I know that can damage the water pump. Any ideas?

Pretty classic problem. It will preobably go better if you use a touch of choke. Most likely still something gummed up in the carb.
Open the carb and prove that all passages and jets are clear.Be sure the float operates.Be sure vent on tank is open and clear.

fyrman1,

Where did you get the manual and carb rebuild kit on your Nissan 5 h.p.? I have the same problem on a Nissan 5 I inherited so I thought I'd rebuild the carb but I haven't found the manual and rebuild kit.

You can get both from the "Tohatsu Guru's" (aka Elvin) website at internetoutboards.com
