Nissan 5 hp cuts out when put in gear

I have an older Nissan 5 hp 2-stroke that I tried to get running for the first time this year. The engine will only run/idle with the choke 1/2 out. As soon as I put it in gear it dies. I just put in a new spark plug and have fresh gas. <br /><br />Any ideas/recommendations?<br /><br />Thanks

2 things i want you to check, i want you to check if you are getting spark to both cylinders, and i want you to check your compression if possible, sounds like something gave out and you sre simply losing power,when i blew the head gasket on my force outboard, it was only running on one cylinder, and then it would also cut out when i dropped it into gear, try these and reply back to me

This engine only has one cylinder. Since it will start it 's got a spark ... I'll see if I can find someone at work that has a compression gage. Thanks

IMHO your carb's low speed jets are clogged. Try some carb cleaner, and if that doesn't work you should probably overhaul it. Good luck.

I would guess its and easy fix cause yeah its a jap motor. Its a fuel problem,maybe the fuel pump diaphram or bulb.

as i said above, rebuild the darn tootin carb.. i have a spare carbe already rebuilt from dealer in saint petersburg... you need to rebuild it whatever you choose, they get all gummed up and clogged, its really easy
