I have been trying for days to get this engine to idle correctly. I have soaked and rebuilt the carb with new kit . New L/U seals and new water pump kit with gaskets and impeller. I am a bit confused about how to get the throttle screw and idle screws working together . i get very close and then it will just start opening the throttle on its own and reving up loud. I can post a link to a video on youtube or something of it running if you guys could take a look. thanks. Here is a short video of the motor running.

Well of course right after I posted I went out to fiddle with it a bit more and I think I figured it out. I have less then $200 invested in this motor , not bad. What do you guys think?

What was your solution? We typically set the pilot somewhere around 2 turns out initially, warm the motor and adjust idle stop, then re-adjust pilot, followed by idle stop, etc (using a good shop tach) repeatedly, until we have minimum idle stop, and are in idle specs. Then richen the pilot about 1/8 turn for stability.

No wonder you can't get that engine running well while tampering the carb with a screwdriver under trial and error. Next time you remove something, mark its position and put back same assuming adjustments remains as factory delivered. Could measure with a vernier tool the height of mixture screw from base to head top and put back same as a starter.

I understand that doing this without training or experience isn't ideal but I am learning. I just figured it out by trial and error and also by reading some archived forum threads from here. Here is a short video of me running it yesterday , she ran for 6 hours with no issues. Starts right up with one hand pull and idles great. I did have water in L/U oil but I'm pretty sure I need a new prop shaft housing and the seal that goes in it. Thanks for the input guys.
