We have a 40D 2 stroke Nissan, engine numbers 3C8-1 39940 on it, I was wondering if you can change just the impeller in these units, or is it better just to get the whole water pump kit? I'm kind of confused why they would sell just the impeller, if the gaskets get trashed when disassembling you need the gaskets as well don't you? Please let me know as we have not had this apart yet and would like to make sure I get the right part. Thanks

Sometimes the pump housing will come off cleanly, and if so, the old gaskets may be OK. The WP kit is often the way to go. Includes gaskets and the wear parts (plate and cup) in addition to the impeller.

Yes, both the bare impeller and full kits are available. So are separate gaskets, and the cup and plate. What you need depends on what you find once it's apart. We usually do full kits, as the major cost is in the labor -- which is the same whether it's just an impeller, or a full kit.

you can just replace the impellar .... next time just add a very thin layer of marine grease to the gasket, then it will come off clean .....
