Hey gang. I am going to attempt to clean my carb on my 40C. I have never done this before. Any advice on the overhaul?

Second thing is after I do clean the carb, how do I set the idle mixture? I've read on this forum about the screws but have no idea what that means. I also plan on ordering the service manual from internetboats. Are the instructions on setting the mixture in the manual?

Thanks for any help!!

Gregg

Re: Nissan 40C Idle mixture HELP!

Hi goplay808,

the manual isn't that useful actually. I purchased one and it wasn't informative beyond the mere basics. To set your needles you screw them down all the way till they won't turn anymore (be careful not to tighten them, just turn till they won't turn anymore, lightly). Then you unscrew them 2 1/2 turns out (each). You then start your motor in the lake/dock/bucket and let it warm up a bit (keep at idle). Then you adjust the needles (all 3 at a time) until the motor rpm reaches the highest. Then you turn them back in 1/8 a turn. This is the basic idea.

The Tohatsu manual ain't worth its weight in paper really. Actually a Clymer Tohatsu manual is more informative and covers a wider range of tohatsu motors.

boatster
