3 cylinder 40 hp Nissan that I just bought. I went thru the carbs for good luck. It runs fine but right where the downhousing connects to the lower steering bushing there is water coming out in big quantitys. I have never seen this before in a outboard, maybe it is normal. The motor is not overheating but may put a water pump in for luck. To drop the lower unit, is the shift linkage under the carbs like a OMC and is there any hidden bolts? Thanks in advance.

Look just above the lower unit at the front. There is a shift rod coupler visible that you have to drive a pin out of.

Thanks I will look for it. Have you ever seen water coming out a hole right above the foot when the motor is running?

The cavity is open inside so you might see some water coming out the drain hole. It shouldn't be much more than a dribble.
