My son recently bought a 40 HP Nissan engine that has been sitting up fir about 3 years, we are trying to get it running and intend to install on a little fishing boat soon. When he bought the engine, he bought it without Dad or Granddad looking at it as teenagers are known to do and all he got was a complete engine. The engine is set up for remote steering, and start but he has no controls. Is there a way to plug the wires in such a way as to get power where it needs to be in order to attempt a start without buying the controls until we know the health of the engine? I have a remote fuel tank, can operate the throttle manually, and jump the starter if it can be done without frying the electronics. I don't want to purchase a control if the engine is nothing but a paper weight.

Re: Nissan 40 Hot-wire questions.

The owners manual for your US motor is here: http://www.tohatsu.com/tech_info/own_man_pdfs/Toh40C.pdf and has the RC wiring diagram near the back. Assuming everything checks out, you will want to get the correct RC box, which will vary, depending on whether you need power tilt or not.

HTH.
