Nissan 4 HP NSF 4A2 2004 Faliing into Gear

My Nissan 4 HP falls into forward gear from Neutral by itself. This started occuring after I removed the lower unit to install a new impellor. It appeared to go back together fine, but the problem started then.

I do not see any adjustments on the gear lever. Any suggestions.

Take it into a dealer. Whatever you have done or failed to do will probably not be apparent to you and as I have never heard of an engine "falling into gear" I am leary about telling you what might have happened.

Elvin's right. This is a potentially dangerous condition, since you don't want to go into gear accidentally. You can also wreck the pinion gear.

Can you get into reverse? Is the neutral safety cable and lockout working correctly? If not, that's a clue.

Assuming that you did not disturb anything internal to the LU or anything related to the shift lever and detent ball itself, there is a possibility that the rod coupler for the shifter may be mal-adjusted. No way to be 100% sure without an inspection by a qualified mechanic.
