Welcome to Iboats,

It's the upgraded version of the younger brother 25 HP. You aren't plainly satisfied with its performnace, which size boat, load are you running with that OB ? What you can do is maximize a prop to get the full 30 HP out of that OB for your current application to perform top.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping it was the smaller brother to the 40hp haha. Motor is on a 1648 Lowe Big Jon. I'm running a 10P stainless PowerTech. The boat and motor is used for running the river for waterfowl.

I haven't had it out on my 1648 yet. It was on my 1452 and would fly. I'm waiting on my jackplate before I put it on the 16' (short transom and Long shaft). It's just one of those things where you get a bigger boat so want more motor

Once OB is installed can go for a prop maximization and save buying a larger OB, usually on light boats, but larger than previous, one less pitch is the way to go to be around max wot revs, only a wot run lightly loaded along healthy tach will tell..

i run a 30 hp efi on my 1648 mv.i have hit 29 mph lightly loaded. porpoising is my problem. with 2 guys i can run all day at 27+ mph. way too fast for that boat. i cruise along at 20 mph and pull about 4500 rpm.

Is porposing when bow bounces up and down when on plane ? if so, need to move or add more weight forward like full fuel tank, water containers, sand sack, trim one hole less. Luckily my Rib doesn't experience those picky issues, can drive as a gondolier sitting on top engine for hours if needed.

Check out Nauticus Smart Tabs to reduce porpoising, I've used them on a couple of different boats now and have been pleased with how they allowed me to fine tune the boat's performance in regards to motor trim. They are nowhere near being what adjustable trim tabs are, but they are a good compromise for the investment.
