I have a new Nissan 3.5B (2 stroke outboard), the one with Neutral and Forward gears. Twice now, the motor has been run for 30 minutes or more, stopped, restarted - and won't go into gear. I flip the geqr lever back and forth, nothing happens - no noise or grinding. With the motor off, I try spinning the prop to see if it engages when in gear - sometimes it does, but then when I try to start the motor, it won't go into Forward.

Trying to start it in gear does not work either - the engine starts, but the gear is not engaged.

I have replaced the gear oil. I am abiout 4 hours into my breakin period. This has to be a simple fix. The manual has noting on this and there are no repair shops near me.
Andrew

Re: Nissan 3.5B won't go into Forward

Figured this one out myself. I removed the little rubber plug on the left side of the lower unit and verified that the shifter rod was connected - it was. That meant the problem was down in the drive gears. To get to the drive gears, I first had to remove the propeller. When I did that, the little brass pin that goes through the drive shaft and into sockets on the prop fell out in 3 pieces. That is what I need to replace - everything was working except the pin.
Andrew
