I have a 1987 nissan 3.5A outboard with breaker points. The breaker plate is fixed, that it no slots for adjustment. The motor is firing at near top dead center no matter how the points are gapped. Does anyone know how to time this motor? I have never seen a two stroker without an adjustable breaker plate.

Thanks

Don Eskelund

------------------

there is no adjustment for timing on this motor.same with the 2.5,in fact, the mercury 2.2,3.0,tohatsu 2.2,3.0,are all the same.a lot of your japanese base singles have no timing adjustments

Thanks Pinkmouse,
The motor "comes up hard" when you pull to start it. That is it nearly breaks your wrist when it fires. I am sure this is because it is firing to close to TDC. Is there a easy cure for this engine or should I go ahead and modify the breaker plate?

Thanks again,
Don Eskelund
