First I'm not an outboard idiot, just new to Nissan. Bought a 97 3.5 pulled the spark plug wire off and looked like the spark plug end broke off the insulator on the wire. Had a piece sticking out got some pliers to pull out and no go. Looked in and there is no usual spring or metal attachment to hold the end of the plug. Looks to be in plastic. Is it supposed to be that way with something sticking in the spark plug insulator or is something missing or broken in the end of the spark plug wire.

Welcome to Iboats,

There should be a metal cap that secures onto plug tip, you need to buy a Plug Cap (With resistance) part : 3C7069210 If cable end is bit blackened or worned, cut 3-5 mm lenght so to find fresh new wire, portion, screw plug cap tight till stops.

Happy Boating
