My nissan 3.5 either starts on the first pull or will not start at all. I bought the engine used 6 months ago and I replaced the spark plug in January, changed the lower unit oil in February and rebuilt the carb with a new rebuild kit in late March/ early April. I run marine grade ethanol free gas and the engine started on the first pull 2 days ago. I use the engine on the weekend and during the week I keep it stored on an outboard stand with the carb filled with gas. I pulled it off the stand earlier today to fill a flush bucket with water. When I put the engine back on the stand I noticed some gas had leaked. I removed the cover, cleaned up the gas and when I tried to start the engine it wouldn't turn over. This happened once before and I drained the carb of gas, checked all the fittings and it started right up; tried that today and no luck, engine won't start. I reviewed the troubleshooting guide in the service manual, and still no luck. I'm hoping not to have to row out against the current to my sailboat tonight. Greatly appreciate any help!

Welcome to Iboats,

Landseer, check, clean internal mesh filter located inside fuel **** for obstructions, if found, fuel is being limited going down to carb. Adjust fuel ****'s retaining metal clamp tight, as you could experience fuel spills there specially in summer when heat gets sometimes extreme.

Being a 2 strokes, better consume all fuel leftovers on bowl, simply close fuel **** and let engine die. Repeat starting procedures on next outing.

Happy Boating
