Here's my tale of woe... Any advice would be appreciated.
Went out a couple weeks ago. Nissan 25hp 2-stroke (I think it's a '95) was running great, both at idle and in motion. I switched over to my spare tank and everything went downhill. The engine abruptly stopped. Thinking it was bad fuel or water in the tank I switched back to the remainder of my main tank and was able to get the engine to start up again after about 45 minutes. Since then (about 4 hours of runtime), my engine has been running like crap (e.g., will not idle, tough to start sometimes).
I've attempted the following to "fix" the issue:
- found the drain screw on the carburetor and drained what I could
- checked and emptied the fuel filter (appeared to be pretty clean)
- changed spark plugs
- run roughly 3 gallons of new gas and oil mixture (50:1) through the engine
Still, it will not idle reliably for me, and sometimes is stops sort of violently with a sharp, stacatto chirp or screech.
Anybody have any ideas for me? My next thought was to try to clean the carburetor, but I wanted to check in with the fine folks frequenting this forum first.
Thanks in advance...
