I dropped my carb into the parts cleaner bucket tonight and noticed 2 dime-sized drops of epoxy/JB Weld on the top side of the carb. It is eating away obviously and will be gone by the morning. See my earlier post for the symptoms I am having with the engine -- runs but not with any power -- bogging recently as well.

I purchased this engine from a dealer but used -- its a 2000 25hp with the restrictor plate removed -- so its a 30hp.

Can't be good sign, right ? Someone was doing some weird stuff to this carb, what is on top of the carb, just some air intakes correct ? I also have a 5hp Nissan and seem to remember some air intakes up top. These blobs of goo are strategically located, not an accident ... Time for a new carb ?

Sounds like someone popped the metal seal plates out and then found out they dont go back in place.

Oh, doesn't sound too serious then. What would you suggest to re-seal these 2 holes, is JB Weld OK ? Or a liquid gasket-maker ?

I would suggest a carbretor replacement...But, when someone has screwed one up like that almost anything will hold for awhile.
