I recently purchased a dealer manual for my Nissan 9.9B2 four stroke. I purchased it because I wanted a better understanding for testing the CD unit. However the CD chart in the manual is very confusing. Im not sure what the "CON", "ON", and "OFF" is refering to. Also there are only resistance checks and NO output checks. I thought I purchased a knock off manual but the place I bought it from says they get them straight from Tohatsu. The manual part number is 003210410M. Any info would be greatly apreciated.

That Factory service manual is out of print. Yes, it sounds like a correct Tohatsu/Nissan part number. CON means continuity (and probably gives an ohm number). There is a capacitor in the circuit, and the needle will jump once, then settle on the value shown in the chart. ON also means continuity; any movement of the needle means conductive.... and OFF means open circuit. You need to use a Proper Analog OhmMeter.

Output to the ignition coil must be measured with a DVA meter or a DVA adapter, or an oscilloscope, since the pulse is very short.

Thank you so much for your response. Do you have the part # of the analog ohm meter or know where I can find one? Will any analog meter work? Also will I run any risk of damaging anything with a digital meter or is it that the digital meter just isn't capable of measuring the ohms? I have heard that when measuring output voltage you need to leave the CD unit connected and backprobe. Have you heard this to be true or can I just disconnect the leads and measure my exciter and pulser coil outputs? Thank you again.

Any analog meter will work and digital meters usually will not provide an accurate reading for those tests.
