Nissan 18hp Gas hose connection doesn't fit.

I recently purchased a new Nissan 18HP four stroke, electric start. This was the first day I had a chance to put it in the water and to my surprise I just can't get the gasoline hose fitting to connect to the motor. It appears that the hole just isn't large enough to fit over plastic shield around the right hand pin. (Not sure what that does!) It looks like it would fit over the brass gas nozzle with no problems but the female hole is just too small for the male latching pin. Does Nissian make different size hoses that may have got packed into my shipment by mistake? (The connection on the other end to the 6 gallon gas tank was no problem.)

This is a first. They only have one size fitting in the plant. Did you purchase the engine online or from a local dealer?

Elvin,<br />I purchased the outboard online. There just no way the hose will fit. The bag that the hose was packed in has the correct model number (NSF18B2 EFI) but even with more brute force than reasonable it will not slide in. It's obvious that the locking pin fitting is just a shade too large for the hose connector hole.

Well, it has to be a defect in either the male or female fitting. If you have access to a Yamaha or Mercury fuel fitting, you can try one of those and see if it fits. if it does than you had a bad female. If one of those does not work, then it has to be the male. You can go to a local Nissan/Tohatsu dealer for a warranty replacement or you can contact the online retailer you purchased it from and they can send you the fitting.

Good advice. I don't think I'll try the hammer method.
