I purchased a new Nissan Branded 18 HP 4 stroke two years ago. The first season it ran OK about three outings, then it wouldnt idle until it got warmed up. Took it to a local dealer and they changed the bi-starter. Seemed OK for a short while. Into the second season for only the second time, now it will only idle and stalls when you try and throttle up. I have had this motor two summers and it has never run right. Trying to contact Nissan is a total waste of time. They simply do not want to talk to you and will not stand behind their products. They simply try and dump you off on a local authorized repair shop and do not want anything to do with you once the engine is sold. I will paint my motor yellow and let everyone know about the Nissan support.

Your problem is very easy to diagnose...You have a dirty carburetor. Now let me ask you something. How can a manufacturer stand behind the product unless you take it into a dealer? What do you want them to do, fly someone to your house? Seriously, be realistic about the problem and it can be solved. And just for the record....The dirty carb is your fault as you either used bad fuel or allowed it to sit in the carb long enough to turn to varnish.

Elvin is 100% right, (and I agree with his 3 rules, too). As a servicing dealer, we could help you out, and I'm sure your local dealer can too.

The physical problem is likely caused by bad gas -- which may still be in the tank. At this point, you may also have junk in the carb.

Have your dealer do their warranty obligation, and get the carb straightened out. But keep in mind that they cannot reasonably warrant the fuel you run.
