10 pulls start it, runs rough, and only at fast idle. I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner in a can, replaced the plugs, new fuel, and drained the tank hose. Still have the same problem. I 've always used the marine sta-bil in the fuel tank. Could there still be gum in the carb? If so what else can be done to minimize this problem? Thanking you in advance!!

You didn't clean the carb. You polished it. You need to get a one gallon pail of carb cleaner and correctly clean it.

Yep. "cleaner in a can" makes the carb shiny, but is not aggressive enough to dissolve the organic deposits in the passages inside the carb. Then, in the future, be sure to religiously run the carb dry at the end of each day.

Thanks I appreciate the info so I will get to work on the carb again

I'll get a gallon of the cleaner and proceed from there - again Thanks a million.

For newbies disasembling and reassembling a modern day carb properly is very risky. Plus the cost of the right carb kit. If it was older or badly abused with watered gas I would agree. Filling the fuel bowl with sea foam will fix alot of minor blockages. Flush out idle needle passages by removing needle and spraying into that port. If you have adrain port on fuel bowl pull it and try to catch all of the residue in a clear cup. If you have pieces of junk in ti you probably should do a complete tear down. pump through new fresh gas with prim bulb and reinstall bowl drain plug. Good Luck

Check the inline fuel filter under the cover. You must replace it with the Nissan/Tohatsu filter, it has a check valve in it. Had the same issue with a Nissan 18 4 stroke.

P.S. Sorry, I know it'll tick you off like it did me.

I agree with Star - cleaning the low speed (idle, pilot, whatever) jet on my Honda 8HP solved a problem just like yours. I used "cheap" carb cleaner and air jet, did not have to go the route of the "proper" cleaner - guess I was lucky, but will use it next time.
