Re: Night Fishing Rocks......................

I'm wanting to do this soon myself, we have a pontoon boat now so it will be different than what I've been use to in the past, get up walk around and such. I believe we will enjoy it a lot more. Also I was wanting to rig up some floating light's to attract the bait fish in. The bugs part, don't know how well they work but, I've seen commerials on tv advertising "OFF" clip-ons that form a bug free barrier around you. Again never tried them, but if they did work I would prefer them over spraying down.

FYI, the clip-on bug repelants work really good for mosquitos when you are sitting in a tree or in a blind but I don't think they would work to well out on the water with Mayflies and Moths and such that are attracted to light. I do a lot of night fishing too and the bugs are a common nuisance. A Mayflie in your eye at 27mph does not feel too good

Check out the fishing weapon. Underwater neon light. Might not attract the bugs.

hmmmmmmm, lights attract bugs.........

but the coast guard frowns on that because of night vision........

maybe a blacklight, it might attract them ........

worst case new rul on the boat: BYOBS!

"bring your own bug spray" :p

You can't avoid bugs like moths and mayflies. I use the 99% deet spray and it keeps the mosquitos off me but all the other bugs have no problem crashing into me all night long. Since you have to have a stern anchor light on at all times away from the dock you cannot avoid them. If their there than their there. What I would suggest is try creating a diversionary tactic. I bought the 48 inch stern light and the bugs love it, but they love it up away from my face a little bit. When I turn on my headlight to do something in the boat some of them start crashing into my face again until I turn it back off, then they go back up to the stern light again.

Nice Dave....Qunsig?

I've been spending a lot of time (well as much as the rest of my life allows) on Lake Shirley....great fishing on there.

We are going up to Winni in a couple weeks for vacation...staying on Alton Bay....I'm looking forward to getting out there early in the morning before everybosy else is awake.

You won't regret it. Its especially usefull when I'm buy myself at night cause I can anchor, go to the middle or front of the boat and watch my lines, and it keeps all the bugs focussed away from where I'm trying to relax. Their more interested in the light than me. Plus the elevated stern light puts light down inside the boat so you almost don't even need a personal light to see what your doing.

Hahaha,...yep. And you will also be over your minimum legal height requirement of 1m so nobody could ever argue with you that your stern light ain't high enough.

I hope they changed the design of those telescoping lights as I had one and it broke internally. The wiring harness uses very thin wire that's soldered onto the socket pins,,, but they neglected to put any strain relief on the wiring so every time the light is raised, it pulls on the thin wires, eventually breaking them.......... So much for a night of fishing
