I own a 1987 Mercury 115HP in-line six-cylinder 2-stroke outboard (have owned it since new). I change spark plugs every two years just to keep it running strong. I have now found out that NGK 2622 BUHW spark plugs that I have run all these years are no longer available and would like to find an equivalent (or better) spark plug. Can anyone suggest a spark plug that is a good cross-reference to the NGK 2622 BUHW?

Champion QL76V is the replacement for that spark plug. That's what the Mercury website shows for this motor now if you want that style spark plug.

Every 2 yrs? Gee, I had about 800hr on my 84 115, and it still had the factory installed NGKs in it when I traded it in 1998

My maintenance is probably overkill but that's something I've done every two years. I just go over the motor check carbs and all fuel lines (replace any suspect), install a new water pump impeller, change the foot oil, and replace the spark plugs. The motor still looks good, runs strong, and starts right up.

So did mine, even when I refused to get a new Battery, it would fire right up, usually only taking 2 tries using the Rope around the Flywheel on a cold Start. It was good motor

I forgot about checking with the Mercury parts catalog. figured my motor was too old. The Mercury parts catalog referenced Champion L76V (827-1). My local O'Riley's Auto Parts has them in stock. Thanks for the reference.

Agreed. Due to the design of these "gapless" spark plugs there is little to no wear. You only need to clean them off and reuse. I clean mine annually to keep head thread wear to a minimum.
