Yes the NFL, Hockey, PGA, NBL, NBA and many more are free from taxes. What don't you guys get? We had a "non-profit" here in Tampa for breast cancer. Less than 10% of all the money people gave went to research, while the director was paying herself $500,000 a year plus expenses and travel, insurance, ect.

Can't have the boss getting paid less than the troops, can we? Now if he was worth much as a commissioner, but alas, I don't think he is in my opinion. To wit - A 60% chance of snow with 1-3 inches expected on Super Sunday. :facepalm: BTW - Too many zeroes in his salary, only $29M. Only $29 million. :eek:

I am not into football like I used to be. I used to do all the fantasy football and everything. The superbowl has been about eating junk food and commercial the past couple years for me. This year I am only excited by the Seahawks are in it.

NFL = Not For Long

You wonder why there's a class action lawsuit against the NFL because of injuries sustained by previous players who were ill-informed about the injuries they could've sustained.

To me, the games are an excuse to get together with my friends and drink beer and eat good food!!!

GO Broncos?

The suit was settled for $765M between the ex-players and the NFL. BUT NFL - The judge denied the settlement saying the amount is too little. Under the agreement some ex-players would get $25K, others would get $5M, $4m, $3m, $950K, all based on a sliding scale based on age and diagnosis.

These are the guys who made the NFL what it is today - A $9B - B as in Billion, per year tax-free business.

The NFL is tax exempt?

The Commisioner makes $29B for running a Non Profit??

$29Billion???
I doubt it.

I am not even sure that the league is tax exempt. There may be tax angles that they can play that result in tax-deferment etc. but I'd be astounded if the NFL is either a charity or a non-profit.

The NFL is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) association, which means tax exempt. Nonprofit doesn't mean charity, it means taxing authorities say it doesn't have to pay taxes. So the charitable aspect is from the taxers to the non-taxpayers.

Don't disagree. As blood hungry as we are now, why don't we just permantantly get rid of the ref's and give them sharp things?

Did a quick search and you are mostly correct. Thanks for pointing it out.
The league central office itself is structured that way as a non-profit....the teams are not. (would be hard to get that one to fly :))
Still, I am really surprised at that tax treatment. :confused:

That may change....good article here:
