Have a yamaha 2003 25hp 4 stroke right now, and I'm considering replacing it with a new 20hp tohatsu. The yamaha doesn't have tilt, and is really heavy to lift from inside the boat. Also, the yamaha isn't as quiet as I had hoped.... About 70-75dB while idling. I never measured the noise level of my old 15hp nissan, but the yamaha seems about the same, maybe even louder. I haven't been able to find a published spec for the noise level of tohatsu 4 strokes, can anyone with a 20hp do a test for me? If you have a smartphone, there are apps for measuring dB.. I used "decibel 10th", I'm sure there are others.

DB noise will be in direct proportion as how well that engine has been tunned, smooth idling as opposed to rough idling.

You might see if Evinrude or Mercury has bothered with a db rating. It's the same engine
