2000 Yamaha HPDI
Problem:
Riding along at 4500 RPMS Hit a large wave and come down hard. The RPMS will gradually start falling if you give it more gas it will choke. Shut the boat down and crank it again it may work fine for 30 miles or maybe only 2. My mechanic has not been able to watch this happens since it seems to be intermident. I am willing to try any thing. For the most part this will not happen in calm water.

Parts replaced so far:
Computer
powerhead
injectors
heads
ignition

When put on the comptuer all the diags check fine. All senosors check fine on the comptuer and checked manulely.

This motor is still under warranty but does me no good if I cannot get it fixed.

I am not the mecanic but he and I work hand and hand. I do all my own work on all of my older stuff.

Re: Newer Motor

I had a 1985 Suzuki that would drop rpms when accelerating on occasion or when hitting a wave hard. If I throttled back and started again it would be fine. Sometimes it would be fine for weeks and this was driving me crazy. It turns out it was a defective float switch in the powerhead which activates the rev limiter in case of a lack of water cooling the engine. I replaced the switch it ran perfect after.
