Hello, I'm new to boating and new to the forum , so excuse me if I'm green
about some things.
I have a Reinell Inboard 21 foot runabout boat ,Volvo Penta and as a present received the Hummbingbird GPS/Fish finder model 587ci Combo..
I'd appreciate any information on how I should install this on my boat for the best application and less holes..if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

That unit has an internal gps receiver. You have to mount it where you have room, and can view it with not allot of effort. Try not to block with overhead structure and in-dash mounts can be troublesome. If that is not possible and you do have reception problems, just get an external receiver, which can be mounted in many other unobstructed locations.

That would be a transducer, and if it is a transom mount, you owe it to yourself to learn as much as you can about its proper placement. My suggestion is to avoid screwing the mounting bracket directly onto the transom, although this is what most do. Rather, build a small mounting plate that may be fastened to the transom with adhesive (silicon sealant temporarily, until you're satisfied with the mounting location, and eventually using 5200 sealant once you're satisfied with the performance of the transducer). This mounting exercise is designed to maintain the water tight integrity of your transom, and also allows for the complete removal of the transducer in the future with nary a blemish to your pristine hull.
