I recently bought a cottage which came with an old MirroCraft aluminum 16' boat. The motor is a 20 HP Evinrude and I'd like to know what year it is. It has model # E20CRLCSA and Serial Number 7083500. Any information someone can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Newbie trying to identify old Evinrude

It's definitely a 1980. Here's an easy way to remember: Spell INTRODUCES and write the numbers 1 to 9 and the a 0 under each letter. eg: I=1, N=2, T=3 etc. The last 2 letters in the model number are the year unless there was a minor design change which is indicated with a letter. A= 1st change, B=2nd etc. Yours is CSA which is 1980 first change.

I have a '84 20hp Evinrude. Great motor on a 14' aluminum. Do you need any other info? ie: gas mix 50:1.

Good luck

Re: Newbie trying to identify old Evinrude

Thanks, I did find out the ratio from my local marina. I would be curious to know if you would recommend a particular service manual. I think I might be able to get one from Bombardier (1980 and later)but I've seen some published by Clymer as well. Any experience with these or opinions?

I have the Clymer, 2-40 HP 1973 - 1990. I am NOT a mechanic but I can follow what it says fairly easily. I would recommend it.

Appreciate the recommendation. That was the one I was looking at - I'll definitely pick up a copy in case I want to "tinker" a bit. By the way, where are you from in Alberta? I lived there(Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin etc.)for 8 years and loved it! I went to Sylvan Lake quite a bit. Where do you do your boating?

I live in Sherwood Park. Been here 16 yrs. Baptiste and Maligne are favorites. Also go to the Shuswap lots for big lakers and rainbows. :)

Hey...I thought your thread was titled "...trying to identify OLD Evinrude". If it turns out your 'rude is a 1980 model...to me that hardly classifies it as OLD. Unless of course, you are a young lad yourself...then I guess it would!! Ha, ha... But to ol' geezers like me, well heck...1980 was just like yesterday, right??

In any event...congrats on your newly aquired cottage and fishing set-up. For the best response to your outboard questions, you might wanna consider posting (if you haven't already) any future inquiries on the ENGINE/MOTORS forum. Lots and lots of help available there...

Walt
