I have a 19' Sea Ray with a Mercruiser 165hp engine. I need to get a bilge pump, but not sure about capacity? Boat came without one. They go from 375 gph up. Any way to determine what size to get?<br />Thanks

Re: Newbie question on bilge pump

I think bilge pumps are one of those things that "bigger may be better" (to a point). I want mine to pump out what's there and have enough capacity to get a leg up on incoming water to boot. A broken thru hull can quickly overwhelm a smaller capacity unit ... ;)

Re: Newbie question on bilge pump

I have a 24ft bayliner, 1250gph in the front, 750 in the rear to handle the bilge, 2000gph a little higher in case a hose comes off. My life is worth more than a 100 bucks for a backup big bilge pump, all on separate batteries, separate switches. a 1" cooling hose bursting is equalient of a 2000gph leak, I'm thining about adding another 2000gph in the back

Re: Newbie question on bilge pump

I put an 1150 GPH in my bilge, and there is a 750 in there just in case. If you venture offshore much, also carry an alternative method (bucket, manual pump, etc) in case all else fails.

Do you have a factory dash switch for one?
