Re: Newbie needs help

Sorry about that. I assumed when you said "new engine", you meant you had bought it new. One of my pet hates, people not reading the book!

•
• Pre run check list
oil in tank under engine cowl
fuel in external tank
fuel line connected
engine tilted down
battery turned on
fuel primed (squeeze primer in fuel line until firm)

•
• starting
turn key to "ON" position
listen for beeps
push and hold key in and turn to "START" postion
as engine starts, release key and gently lift "fast idle" lever (the one at the back of the control box. Maintain about 1500 rpm
if engine starts to dies, push key in momentarily (this is the enricher system, the new version of a choke)
turn around and look at engine
check for water being discharged from the telltale on the right hand side of the engine (also check you don't have any flames coming from the engine (Just kidding))
as engine warms up lower fast idle lever

now, go out and enjoy the day on the water.

A new owners guide is available from Merc, and they're not expensive.

Chris............
