Hello all, new to the forum and new to boating as well. Just purchased my first boat. Its a 80s model jon boat with a 1995 6hp evinrude outboard. Previous owner said the engine ran fine last year. I tried searching for a manual for the motor available by download with no luck, as well as no answer to my following question.
What is the proper fuel mixture for this engine so I can start tinkering with it?
Also any recommendations for things to check for on the motor before hitting the lake?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Newbie Motor question

First, welcome and use the "search" feature here in the forum and you can save yourself a lot of time waiting for answers to questions that probably have been asked more than once. To your first question: 50:1 is the fuel/oil mix. To your second: It's always best to check the "Big 3" of any 'new-to-you' marine engine....Compression/Spark/Fuel System. Those are the things you need in order for it to run. Next on the list is the "Impeller". If it hasn't been changed in a couple of years, it's time. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is nowhere more relevant than in the world of boating. Great little outboards and with some time and attention, should give you plenty of years of memory-making. Good luck.
