Re: Newbie Here: with a Tracker Crappie question

Hello. I just bought a used Tracker PT175 with a 50HP 2 stroke (I believe this is a very similar size boat to the Pro Crappie model. I would say that if you are just planning on running around the lake to fish, you will be fine with the 25. If you are planning to pull kids (not adults) on tubes and such like I want to do, you will not be satisfied with the 25 and should get a 50 or higher. IMO.

Re: Newbie Here: with a Tracker Crappie question

My Tracker 175TXS has a 50 2 stroke. Boat max HP is 80. The 50 is great with me and the two kids or me and one other adult. I add one adult and kids and its real noticable.

Personally I wouldnt go less than a 40 or 50. But it really depends on the lake you plan on pushing it through too. My local fishing lakes the 50 is way more than needed. However when I run it up to Smith Mountain Lake in VA, that 50 starts to feel small and under powered because of the chop and currents.

Re: Newbie Here: with a Tracker Crappie question

I agree with Joseph... i once had a 16' starcraft with approx same weight, it would plane with 2 ppl and gear just fine with a 25hp 2 stroke merc. It would max out at 23mph. Later on we upgraded to a 40hp 4 stroke and that would achieve around 32mph. Hope this helps. But personally if you could get a 40 or 50hp i would ... you can never get to your fishing destination fast enought.... LOL

rule of thumb, to operate properly you need atleast 70% or the rated HP of the boat, if rated for 100hp you need atleast 70hp.

I don't think you will be happy with the 25 Hp. Remember Gas weighs 8.3Lbs per gal. Multiply that times 17 and add your gear.. I think you will be way underpowered. Just my .02

Oh! Welcome aboard iboats
