Hello everyone my name is Erik, I am from Texas. I recently bought my first boat and some are going to laugh but it was an inflatable. Sevylor HF280 to be exact. We really enjoy it. looking at a jon boat next week, that will be my first "real" boat and really looking forward to it. Any how, here is a couple of newbie questions which is probably going to be one of many...:D

What does it mean when your boat is on plane? I have an idea but not sure.

anyone else have an inflatable boat that had to register theres? seems like a grouling process.

Thank you guys look forward to picking all you boaters brains for tips and ideas in the future.

On plane is when the boat is up out of the water and running on the surface instead of pushing the water out of the way.
You will notice a difference as your getting up to speed the boat bow will come up and then it will nose over and go faster with no more throttle.
This is for planing boat hulls.
I dont know about inflatables and jon boats as they have a flat bottom.

Re: newbie here with a newbie question!

greetings from oregon, i had to register my inflatable here and it wasnt too bad. you have to call your state marine board for your state for info. but i had to have a bill of sale, have the sherrifs dept inspect it, get a new hin for it as it came from cali no title, and im the 3rd owner. po didnt put a motor on it so no registering. it wasnt too bad, i was able to get it done enough to go crusin in a week as i had copies of paperwork and the state marine board as well as local sherrifs recognized a form of the paperwork as a temp title/registration.
and my 12 foot zodiak planes great with the 18 i have on it, rated up to a 40 horse.youll know when your on plane when your front levels out and you are flying across the top of the water. flat water is the best for flying.
