I want to do my own oil change on a "96 7.4l Mercruiser. I checked the threads and didn't see a "how to" for this engine. I'm a big guy and I don't see a drain plug. Is that because I need to pump the oil out through the dipstick tube or am I just not seeing it?

Sorry if this is a elementary type question but looking for guidance.

If you go to the link below, you can find your Merc service manual and download it free. It will have everything you're looking for and more. I'm pretty sure it's Service Manual #16.

You can also get here by clicking on the thread called "stick"...Adults Only. Second thread from the top.

FYI...a pump through the dipstick is the most common way to change oil on a marine engine.

Good luck.

Ayuh,... Unless you've got a pull through the bilgeplug hose on your drain fitting,...
Pumping is the Only way to go....
Draining into the bilge is a Mess you don't want to go through...

Funnel with an attached hose through the drain plugged worked for me on my 5.7. A little plastic layed down in the bilge to catch any small spills. I would never trust pumping it out...Just my opinion
