Hey everyone! I have been in a boat since I was in diapers, and now finally a boat owner! We recently purchased a Grady White Chesapeake 212 with a mercruiser 470, 190hp from a friend. The boat has been sitting a few years in their driveway due to an illness. I am in the process of getting her running and trying to replace/repair any and all short cuts and problems. I'm sure I will be relying on you guys for a lot of advice on this project. I know engines, but other than that I'm new to the rest. Just figured I would introduce myself thanks again!!

Welcome aboard vicous, Im so excited for you.
Nothing like working on your boat, and relaxing. With a few cuss words inbetween.Things dont always go as planned when it comes to boats.Remember, if anything is gonna happen, its going to happen out on the water, take it on,but be careful too.

Re: Newb Boat Owner

Thanks everyone! Ill get some pics up shortly. Its already been an adventure, I went to do plugs and wires and the back two plugs broke off flush with the manifold with the ceramic still in them. After three days and a bunch of money in drill bits I got it all taken care of, and managed to get her to start using ether. The more of a fight it puts up the more determined it makes me to get it going. Next I am getting the carb rebuilt and cleaned, the jets are blocked up. Then its on to the wiring fun lol. Question for you guys what do I do with the old gas after I remove it from the tank?

I just burn old gas a little at a time in my Yukon. As long as its not like varnish.

Re: Newb Boat Owner

you'll get all sorts of answers to that one, but if the gas isn't good for the boat it isn't good for anything.... I live in the country so I dump it on a brush pile and light it.
