Does anyone know if there is an inland route from NY to Cape May? I see that you can get in around Brielle NJ but I have no info on what the trip would be like. My basic questions are, Is there a more Northerly entrance? And once you are in the waterway, what is the passage like? Mostly no wake? Badly marked? That sort of thing. Thanks Granpa

I think you get in at manasquan then the canal dumps you in the northern part of the barnaget bay. No speed restrction except @ manasquan & Beach Haven that I know of. would take you a good day to do the trip if not more.

pick a nice day, get far enough offshore to get out of the reflected waves from shore, and hammer it down to Cape May

then you can get back into the ditch

:D

Re: New York to Cape May

This is a question from last year. We ended up trucking the boat down as it got pretty late in the year. I'm glad we did cuz there were some mechanical issues that would have made it a nitemare. Now the question is pertinent again. I need to bring a boat down from Manasquan NJ to Cape May and then into the Chesapeake. The 2nd part is not a problem but the trip from Manasquan to Cape May looks a bit iffy because of all this weather. I'm leaving in the AM (Tues 9/7) but have till Sat to get the boat. I've located some older charts that show the ICW route. It looks to be about 100-110 NM on the inside. I'll go outside if the weather allows but right now it doesn't look promising. It is a 25' Parker and is seaworthy. Anyone done the NJ ICW recently? How good or bad is it? Thanks for any input in advance. I'll check before I leave tomorrow. Granpa

I did some ICW cruising this past June from Ocean City, NJ to Avalon, NJ. The ICW areas I cruised were marked and navigable at low tide. The only problem I see for you is the "no wake zones". They will increase your travel time significantly. If I had to guess, I would say about 15% of my voyage was through "no wake zones".

Saty in the marked channel and you will be fine. There are some places, that you can have 10' of water on the inside of the channel marker and 1' on the outside. good luck, and take your time!
