Does New York have any special regulations for Lake Ontario for additional safety equipment?

I am planning on heading out of Rochestor for salmon next week in my 18' Nitro fiberglass boat (not way out, but maybe 1-2 miles MAX), only if the conditions are good.

I searched the forums here and looked on NYS DEC's website to no avail. I even googled it.

If there are no special regs, does anyone have and suggestions for equipment that is a good idea?

Cheers!

Nothing special at all unless I believe if you were running a charter. You should be just fine. Go catch lots of fish!

PLEASE do not post the same question in multiple locations!!

Lake Ontario New York Regs question

Lake Ontario New York Regs question

Hi All.

I am planning on heading to Lake Ontario out of Rochester, NY, Gennesee River area on Wednesday, weather permitting.

I have looked for regulations from New York State on what my boat needs to have, legally. I am coming up with nothing. I am taking a 18.5" Nitro bass boat out, and will be 1-2 miles MAX from shore. If the waves on the lake get to be more than 1-2', I will be heading in. I'm not one to take too many chances.

If there are no regulations, does anyone have any suggestions for equipment that would make the trip safer? I have the usual required/common sense items (life jackets, throwable, GPS, paddle, cell phone, float plan with a shore person, 2 way Motorola radio). I was thinking I should also have a flare gun and weather radio. My cell phone does have internet so I can look at weather forecasts on that.

Thanks for any input!

Cheers.

You are also required in NYS to have an anchor and rode appropriate to the water in which you're boating.
