I've been going to the New York International Boat Show for the past few years (about a 2hr drive from my home.) However, I am a little hesitant on making the trip this year as per the transportation workers strike.

It has usually been crowded whenever I went but tollerable. With the prvailing situation my thoughts are any parking and/or alternative transportation into the city may compromise an enjoyable experience.

Anyone elses thoughts?

Drive to HOBOKEN and take the tubes to 33rd st. OR go to NEWARK and take the tubes or NJ TRANSIT. My car never got closer than ST. GEORGE statin isl. and I would take the ferry and subways. Kids loved it. fred

The easiest way to get there is the ferry from Hoboken. It takes you right accross the river to the Javits Center.

Was not aware boats were running out of HOBOKEN again. My last trips were in the 50s. Beautiful woodwork in those old coal fired beauties. Sure they are all steel now. Was always amased how they made there way thru the river traffic at that time. regards fred

Thanks fellas.

I'm glad the strike is over and am planning to go next Mon. on 1/2 after smoke clears from the Times Square New Years Party.

I am aware of the ferry from the NJ side but was concerned about parking at the ferry and other bottlenecks boarding the ferry if the strike was in progress. The ferry has always worked well for me considering it cost just as much to go throught the tubes or across the bridge. Also the parking at the ferry is a fixed cost unlike parking lots in the city that charge what ever price they want based upon demand.

Other than being in the market for a new prop, I'm not really looking for anything in particular. However, I expect it will give me a few things to think about while recovering from cabin fever over the next few months.

PAKev -

Hoboken is a "little bit" of a pain to park in...
Frankly, most everywhere you can get the PATH trains is tough, but you might have better luck at Journal Square in Jersey City. You can then go to either Hoboken or Exchange place to pick up the ferry, or if you feel amitious (and the weather is not bad) you can take the PATH to 33rd Street in Manhattan and walk. If you walk, just remember that the crosstown blocks are WAAAAYYY longer than the uptown/downtown blocks, so going from 8th Ave to 12th Ave will be about the same distance as going from 33rd St. to 42nd St. It's still a nice walk, though.

Another alternative for parking is to go to the Port Imperial terminal in Weehawken - plenty of parking there, and it's right across from Javits Center. Parking ain't cheap, though.

If you take the ferry, check the schedule so that you don't land up sitting on the dock for an hour:
http://www.nywaterway.com/

EDIT: - Save $2: http://www.nywaterway.com/boatshow.html

-------------------------------------

P.I.Fred:

Check above link to see what the new ferries look like - they're nothing like the old double-enders.
Jet-flea type drive, too - no props (at least on the newest ones).

The TUBES? You must be out of Jersey for quite a while! ;)
