First the cars, then the outboards, then the pickup trucks, AAAGGHHHHH!! But they are less problems. I am signing up for a Asian language so I can read some owners manuals. :D

Re: New Yamaha Stern Drives

Yamaha has always made stern drives, and they used to sell them with gas powerplants here in the US. They quit selling them here in the US, but never stopped making them. Parts are a problem for the poor folks who bought boats with the Yamaha stern drives here in the US.
Don't get your hopes up.

smooth shifting, that makes me laugh.
I own a 92 stern drive, my shifting story goes a little different than the one in the link.

Re: New Yamaha Stern Drives

I'd put a Yammie two stroke up against anything.

We bought a Yammie jet ski brand new in 1998. It is on its second family now and runs as strong as the first day we put it on the water. Probably 1200 hours on it by now. One new impeller in all that time, and a few spark plugs and that is it.

However, I would not walk across the street for a Yammie four-stroke.

1061 lbs. for a 165hp? And the price should be heavy also. Better get 3 X the gas milage to justify buying.

Bondo--should have been more clear---I would not walk across the street for a Yammie 4-stroke outboard---wrong forum, I know, but that was my point.
