I am installing a new Yamaha F115 with new digital tack and speedo. It all seams to be working fine but the backlighting on the gauges does not come on.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram on these gauges that shows which wires need to be hooked up to turn on the lights?
The wiring diagram that came with them is useless.

Thanks.

Re: New Yamaha Digital Tach and Speedo Install Question

I just put new Yammy on my rig and had the same issue. Plug the yellow wire into the double blue and that will do it.

Thanks, Do you happen to know which wire is the power and which wire goes to the light?

I guess I could take a tester to the two wires. But hey after hooking up all those wires the more work I can aviod the better.

I need to know because I want to hook it up to the switch for my running lights and compass light.

Thank you very much for the information so far, it helps a lot.

Re: New Yamaha Digital Tach and Speedo Install Question

hello
yellow is key on 12v positive. black is ground and at the console blue is for lights.if you look on the rigging harness you will see a spot where a yellow and a blue wire come out together. if you want the lights to come on with the key switch hook them together. if you want them through a switch them but a switch between them.
good luck and keep posting

hello again
I almost forgot. make sure the dip switches on the meters are set correctly or you will have other problems as well. they do not come preset nessasarily from the factory to fit any particular engine. the instructions and a picture should have been in the box.
good luck and keep posting

Re: New Yamaha Digital Tach and Speedo Install Question

Thank you Rodbolt,

About those dip switches:
The gauges came with a card that explains the dip switches. But I do not know how to find out what type my engine is. The 2-stroke/4-stroke I figured out but the one about the number of leads to the trim sensor, and the number of poles of the generator.

I checked the engine manual and could not find the info. Am I just not looking good enough.

For reference if anyone has lost the paper that comes with the gauges:
Sw1 (Trim Sensor Type): On= 2-lead, Off=3-lead
Sw2 (Generator Type): On= 6-pole, Off=12-pole
Sw3 (Engine Type): On= 4-stroke, Off=2-stroke
(This is for the Multifuntion Tachometer)

Thanks for all the help guys

Re: New Yamaha Digital Tach and Speedo Install Question

Update: You were totally correct. Sticking out of the wiring harness were two wires: Yellow and Blue. I connected them together and PRESTO backlights work. Now all I need to do is connect the blue wire to my dash light switch.

Your help is much appreciated.

Re: New Yamaha Digital Tach and Speedo Install Question

hello
if it is newer than 2001 then it is a two wire. its 12 pole and 4stroke. set them all coerrect and roll. to double check the trim wires just follow the sender leads into the cowl at the connection. if they are pink orange and black its 3 wire lead if its pink and black its a two wire.
good luck and keep posting

Re: New Yamaha Digital Tach and Speedo Install Question

Update: Ok, my 2003 F115 engine is a 2 wire tilt sensor (I checked and it is Pink and Black wires only), and I will take your word on the 12 poles.
