I have a 2003 yamaha 200 hpdi that hasnt ran in years, i finaly got it running today and it isn’t peeing. I replaced the water pump and the o rings and gaskets around it and I also ran compressed air through the pee hole and it let air all the way through, but when i took the foot off the impeller was dry. I had ran it in a big bucket of water so the intake ports were submerged. I don’t know what the problem is.

You probably need a deeper bucket. Water must be above the pump, not the inlets.

A dry impeller shows water isn't filling the pump. The barrel should do it and put the motor in as deep as you can.

I also ran the diagnostic on it and it says the motor has
941 total hours
651 @ 0-1000 rpm
116 @ 1000-2000 rpm
29 @ 2000-3000 rpm
121 @ 3000-4000 rpm
21 @4000-5000rpm
2.1 @ 5000-6000rpm
0 @ 6000-7000rpm

are these OK numbers? I got the motor for $500 and spent about 400 in parts and gaskets for it. So at about $1000 in should i just sell it or keep it to put on my boat?

The motor I currently have on my boat is a 2003 yamaha 150 2 stroke carburated motor with unknown hours.

Looks like all about 300 hours was spent trolling. The rest was basically under 1000 RPM, light duty. I would put it on your boat and see how it preforms. You may have gotten a good deal.

Have you checked compression?

I will also check compression tomorrow. I just got it running today. The guy sold it because he couldn’t get it started

I put it in the 55 gallon drum and it pees now but its not a very strong flow. The compression was around 115 on all but one cylinder. It was at 15psi ! I ran it for a little while and it went to 60 psi. Then 80, so im hoping the rings are just trying to set in and its nothing major. Still cant explain the weak pee stream

That doesn't account for the dry impeller. Hope it wasn't damaged by running dry in the shallow bucket.

So i installed the 200 on my boat and hooked up all the linkages and wiring and it ran great. I rode it around for about 2 hours. I even got up to 48mph at 5500 rpm with me and a buddy. Now i just need to replace the throttle and shift cables to make for smoother controlling and i will be good to go. Thanks guys for your advice and wisdom!

Is there anything I should put on the new cables before installing to lubricate or protect them? Motor oil? Grease? Or just put them on straight out of the package?

So everything has been working good on the motor the compression is still 93 on cylinder 1 and about 115 on the other cylinders not sure why but it runs great I guess i will keep it. Took the boat out with 4 guys and a boat loaded down. Rode out 35 miles in the gulf and it did fine all day until we got about 15 miles from shore and bam, the prop shaft just sheared off. Lost the prop and half the shaft. We didn’t hit anything how could this happen?? I guess I will buy a new lower unit, I couldn’t get the bearing carrier out its so corroded
