Gentlemen, I have a new 5.7L GI. On the side of the motor is a "flushing port". Can I use the "flushing port" in place of outdrive muffs?

It's brand new, look at your owners manual. Or at least call your dealer.
Who knows if Volvo changed something in the past year or not.

Yes you can use the flushing port instead of muffs.
BUT you can also use muffs, but not at the same time as the flush port.
When you hook a hose to the port, the valve keeps water from backing out.
