New Volvo owner with questions...

Just bought a 2000 Cobalt 206 with Volvo Penta 5.0Gi with dps outdrive. My understanding is that the motor is rated at 250hp. Does anyone know how this can be boosted to get more power of what type of aftermarket upgrades are available if I want more power? Also is the 5.0 motor a true Volvo engine or is it based off a GM or Ford engine?

Is the motor carbed or EFI? Can the carb be upgraded or the EFI be chipped? Any other ideas besides major engine component changes?

Hey drnute...
I can't help too much specifically, but I'm sure your motor is either a Chevy block , or possibly a Ford block, w/Volvo accessories.

Lots of people chase additional hp ( me included) , and it's alomst Never as easy as it sounds.... one thing leads to another...

I would suggest you look into your prop for best buck/bang performance increase. Post some data over in the prop forum.

I'm not a HP nut, so I can't help you there,
but the Volvo Gi is a GM Block,
Volvo Fi is a Ford Block.

I have a 2000 5.0Gi and I can also tell you it is Throttle Body Injected.
