new transom sealing

I've pulled the completely rotten transom out of my Jet and have the new one cut, but am trying to decide the best way to seal it before bolting it in. I've poured over the awesome resto threads of LakeLover, Jas, and others but I did not see anything mentioned (I could have missed it though). Should several coats of paint work, or would epoxy then paint be best? Any of y'all have a brand of epoxy or fiberglass resin preferences?

Re: new transom sealing

I would not go with just paint.
I think multiple cots of epoxy or resin & glass are your only choices

I would put 3 coats of west system epoxy and 2 coats of exterior paint. Then forget about it.

I painted mine, but I should have and would also paint the alum, that way you have paint/paint touching to keep from eating up the alum.
I also sealed the top of the transom real well with lots of caulking to prevent water from leaking in from the top, which on mine caused the transom to rot.
Use sealant around all the bolts.
