New transom cable too long?

installed the new cable today and it seems like it's about 1/4-1/2" to long.






There is enough slop in the pivot to make it work but it seems too long.

Where is the other piece that screws onto your cable down at the drive?

I left it off for the pictures so you could see that the threads end.

loosen the nut and a just it so it is it is 6 1/2" has to be 6 1/2" then do your shift leaver. Do not move once it is at 6 1/2"
