Im in need of a new trailer. I was wondering if anyone has had any experance with Owens & Sons trailers? They are a local place in Florida. It is for a 22' cabin cruiser, use will be for mainly salt water, their trailers seem VERY well built, anyone out there know any good or bad feed back? Thanks and happy boating.

Re: New trailer purchase

Having no knowledge about Owens and Sons I would suggest when choosing a boat trailer look for the NMMA CERTIFIED logo. There are numerous manufacturers that offer boat trailers that "look good" or are seemingly "well built" but may not meet federal regulations. It is a common assumption that just because a manufacturer is selling a trailer it must meet DOT and federal regulations. THIS IS NOT TRUE! There is no one inspecting the product for compliance. NMMA certified manufacturers do in fact get third party inspected and are held to the SAE, NHTSA, and DOT regulations. Look for the certified logo and check out a list of certified manufacturers at http://www.nmma.org/certification/programs/trailers/trailerlinks.asp

I would suggest getting an aluminum trailer double axle.. Make sure you get tires with a real high load rating as well. Plus consider on how far you will be towing the boat and base that on how much you want to spend....

I bought a continental trailer down that way a while back, pretty inexpensive and has worked out well, only complaint was the tires....
