I have a few question about the engine.
I read in the manual that while towing the engine it needs to be in down position what would happen if I tilt it while towing?

What would be the best oil to use for the engine?
Is it safe to use the earmuff method and start it in idle before breaking in the engine at the river so I can test the electric and manual start?

Thanks in advance!

Re: New TOHATSU outboard

1) The engine tilt stop feature, found on all outboards, is not designed for towing. It is only designed to provide clearance to the engine while you are pulling the boat/engine out of the water. If you use it while towing it is possible you could hit a pothole and the engine would come slamming down.

2) Any SAE 10-30 will work, but a FC-W 10-30 would be best.

3) Yes, but do not walk away as the muffs can vibrate off.

Tohatsu Guru thanks for all the information.
Someone suggested to me that while towing I can put the engine to
shallow tilt position so it wont hit any bump. Is it ok to put it
in shallow tilt while towing the boat?

Nope. Doesn't mean you would have a problem...But its a bad idea.

Guru I was at the dealer today and they suggested a suzuki compact water seperator/fuel filter . Any good?
Also they raised my engine about 1 1/2 inches and bolted the engine. There is now a 1 1/2 inch gap. I just dont know if it is safe without the top clamp bracket touching the top of the hull.
I measured the Antiventilation plate is exactly align with the bottom of the hull. According to the dealer this will make the engine run faster.
