Finally convinced my Daughter to upgrade out of her canoe and Minnkota she uses to fish with. Been looking for several weeks for a 14 foot aluminum rig and she was losing patience again like last year when trying to find her a used rig. She gave up and continued to use her canoe.

Several days ago a 42 year old guy drowned in the Mohawk River while fishing out of a canoe with two others on board so I think this scared her into wanting another rig!

So she found one on craigslist two days ago in CT and I drove the 2 hours (4 hours back and forth) to pick it up for her. Glad I didn't hesitate to go get it. Was bought originally by an 82 year old and last 2 years was used very little by 2nd owner who was swapping it for a ski boat for his kids. Was garaged and has a custom trailerable cover for boat and O/B with it too!

Fresh water rig and owner says motor runs great, but I didn't care about the o/b cause I want a 4 strke anyway. I was more concerned with the condition of the boat and trailer. Everything was in Primo condition, so I think it was serviced right along the first 8 years by the first owner at the place he bought it from. I was going to call the marina and see what was done in the past to the rig.

I was amazed at the condition it was in after 10 years. It's a 1999 Monark Classic 14.6 side console and it has full floor and full carpet along with most of the accessories plus a 2 yr old foot controlled bow mounted troller and a Garmin fishfinder.

Has a 25 hp Merc two stroke electric start and a starcraft galv. trailer.

She paid $2600 for all. I'll post some pics but we are still in the process of getting the boat and trailer registered.

I figure I'll bring the trailer to a shop and have them just put new bearings, races and seals on it. We have another set of bearing buddies once the service is done.

Let me know if I'm missing any service here:
For the O/B I figure I'll change the two plugs and the lower gear oil.
I'll pick up a manual and do the impeller.
I'll see how the carbs look and spray them clean with carb cleaner. I figure if it runs rough I'll have to rebuild the carbs anyway.
I'll do a compression test on the cylinders and change the gas filter if it has one.

Does it have points and a condenser to change?

Anything else for preventive maintenance?

I didn't run it before I bought it because I don't care about the O/B. I figure if it runs good she can continue to use it after I do the maintenance.

If after I do the maintenance and it runs rough or has other issues I'll just re-sell it on craigslist. I have a 2005 Merc 9.9 that I bought new in 06 and it only has a few hours on it. I figure she can use that until I locate a 4 stroke for her.

Thx
