ok here it is i have an 85 21 ft renken with an 92 evenrude omc140 hp v4 motor now here are the questions #1 i went out with it sun for the first time started great ran good untill i had an alarm go off in the throttle area what was that? while alarm was going off would not go above 2500 rpm about 2 min later alarm went off boat ran great for 2 more hours. #2 what is the redline on this motor? all i could get was about 4500 rpm. seem's a lil low to me but im a auto mechanic so i could be way off. #3 what is the oil to gas ratio on this the person i got it from said 50 to 1 just want to make sure im not going to damage it. ok thats all for now thank you in advance Jason....with more questions to come im sure

First try and find you an owners manual and service / repair guide for your motor probably on ebay. I have a '69 55hp and the oil mix is 50 to 1 which I think is pretty common. My rpms is supposed to max between 4500-5500 per the book, but my tach I bought on ebay on registers about 2500 at WOT but we're still hiting about 27mph.

sounds like you have a 140 hp SeaDrive, does the complete motor hang behind the boat? your fuelil is 50:1 87 octane: TC-W3 outboard oil. if mine i would like to see it turn 5500 rpms.
the alarms sounds like an overheat, could have been trash on the pickup, or a sticking tstat, or weak impeller. i would definately change the impeller, if the water was restricted from it, it is near shot anyway. they must have water when the motor is running.

no oil alarm is a beep every 1/2 second or so.beep,beep,beep

It went into SLOW mode due to overheating, SLOW is triggered by the heat sensors in the heads and its switched inside the powerpack ( PP is similar to distributor in a car).

Get the factory manual, its very good.

Make sure you get the service book, not owners manual and you need your model number off the engine, theres a plate usually on the leg.

Outboards are simpler than auto's but...they're stranger too.
