Hello everyone! New to the forums so I'll start off with my name is Shawn and I'm from AR. Secondly I'm new to boats, and as my user name applies I'm lacking knowledge in gas engines commonly used in the smaller boats such as the one I've recently purchased. One would think with a general insight into engines, be it diesel or gas, you could easily tend to either. Not the case, I am no gas man lol.
So I'm having some troubles with the 95 crownline boat I've bought. It's got the 5.0L cobra jet fuel injected ford v8 in it. I've heard it run, but upon purchasing it's had a few issues. First, the freeze plug had came out over winter, had a local shop put it back in and supposedly do some maintenance. They said they had idled it up, it had a problem when going into gear it would just die. Every time it would start, warm up and then try to go in gear and die. They said it was an idle issue. They also said they had changed the oil and filters. As I have discovered by the previous owners writing on the filters dating 2009 as being changed, this was not the case. So I've got it back, the shop said they had it running. I take it out to the lake, it first up one time for nearly 1 minute and dies. Won't start back. Load it up and decide i'll try doing some work myself. What I've ran into is, I don't believe I'm getting any spark. After changing the fuel filter, it still wouldn't hit. So I decided to give her a little shot of either. Nothing, won't hit a lick. I've taken a tester and the plug wire off from the coil pack and the nipple shows to have 12V. put it back, take a plug wire off from a plug and see if I get a change in voltage as I whirle the motor over, no change. I think I have narrowed it down to the distributor cap, but once taken off it doesn't look that bad. I've seen worse. Again I'm more into diesels, no fuel or no air and she won't run. Simple to me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
