New to the area and want to go to a safe lake

I just recently moved to the Ft Polk area and I know nothing about the area. I went to toledo bend and wow what a mistake. A 175 dollar mistake. I was running in the boat lane and another boat was approaching so I moved over just a little bit and yep I hit a tree stump. Needless to say it bent my prop and cracked one of the blades. If there is anyone with advise on where to go and where not to go that would be much appreciated. I just want somewhere I can go without the fear of hitting a tree stump. I would like to meet families as well around the local area. I don't know many people here with boats.

Hey Bud, I live down in Lafayette...I used to kneeboard a lot in Toledo Bend, but that was 20 years ago, not sure I would now. I don't know much about Ft Polk area, but if you can drag your boat to Alexandria, there are a few places there you can hit up for water sports. Also Lake Charles has a few. Check out this link it is a good list of lakes/bayous in LA.
